Psychiatric Medication Management in New Jersey
What is psychiatric medication management?
Medication management is ongoing psychiatric follow-up after an initial evaluation. At follow-up visits, the psychiatrist reviews how treatment is working, any side effects, changes in symptoms or functioning, and other health factors, and adjusts the plan with you as clinically appropriate. It does not mean a medication is guaranteed, continued unchanged, or prescribed at a first visit without evaluation.
How it works
An initial psychiatric evaluation comes first (30-45 minutes, $450.00 as listed).
Follow-up visits are listed as 20-30 minutes ($250.00 as listed), by virtual appointment, for patients in New Jersey.
At each follow-up, the discussion may cover symptom changes, sleep, appetite, mood, anxiety, focus, side effects, adherence, other medications, and safety — as clinically relevant.
Prescriptions, when prescribed, can be sent electronically to your pharmacy, as described on the Virtual Visits page.
The plan is reviewed over time: what is helping, what is not, and whether psychotherapy, a different approach, or a referral should be considered.
What to expect
Follow-up is with the same psychiatrist, Dr. Patel, by virtual visit. Visits are unhurried by the practice's stated approach: longer visits, discussion of patient and family concerns, comprehensive treatment planning, and availability for urgent needs and timely follow-up. Tell the practice about side effects, missed doses, new medications from other clinicians, and any worsening symptoms between visits through the practice's phone/text or email contact routes.
Conditions for which medication management may be part of care
Based on the practice's Services page: depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder and other mood disorders, PTSD, dementia-related psychiatric concerns, and co-occurring psychiatric conditions in autism spectrum disorder and intellectual developmental disability, plus other conditions listed there such as OCD, insomnia, schizophrenia, and addiction. Medication is only one part of a plan, where clinically appropriate.
