After completing his residency, he completed a fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. Dr. Patel became an Attending Psychiatrist in the Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit and in the Dual Diagnosis Inpatient Unit for Developmentally Disabled Adult patients at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in 2008, where he supervised and trained psychiatric residents and medical students. He is now Medical Director of the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Inpatient Units at Trinitas Regional Medical Center–RWJBarnabas Health, and has worked as a consultant in multiple assisted living and skilled rehabilitation facilities for more than 13 years. Dr. Patel is board-certified in both Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and provides psychotherapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy, and medication management.
